It is estimated that approximately 2,500 housing units are needed over the next 10 years in THRHA’s region, 70 percent of which are needed in Juneau/Douglas for over-income households. Approximately 200 homes is forecasted to meet the needs of NAHASDA eligible households.

Funding is available for emergency housing repairs for eligible tribal partner members under the NAHASDA Emergency Repair program.

The program is for dire emergencies, is based on need, and is not intended for routine maintenance requests. Emergencies are defined as “repairs requiring immediate corrective action to correct a hazardous condition that threatens the health and safety of the occupant”.

Examples of emergency repairs include:

    • Broken furnace with no heat in the home
    • Broken hot water heater with no hot water in the home
    • Broken pipes & plumping leaks
    • Electrical system stops working or a sudden electrical hazard
    • Imminent structural collapse
    • Storm damage or roof leaks

Program Features:

    •  Provides essential repairs for homeowners.
    • Assistance amount must be paid back if home is not occupied. (Sold, rented, or transferred by recipient for five years after completion.)
    • Total repairs are limited to $10,000.
    • Assistance amount must be paid back if home is not occupied. (Sold, rented, and transferred by recipient for 5 years after completion.)

Qualifications:

    • One member of the family must be an enrolled tribal citizen.
    • Have an annual household income that is 80% or less the median family income for homeowner’s community.
    • Applicant must be the owner of the property and have lived in the home over a year.
    • Applicant must occupy the property.
